FAQ’s About Car Care & Wilson Automotive Repair
Oil should be replaced every 3,000-7,000 miles or every 3 months. Brake pads typically need to be replaced every 20,000-30,000 miles, but this depends greatly on how much and how heavily they are used. During your car’s Routine Service, our ASE Master Certified Technician will assess your brake pads and let you know when to expect a replacement. Longer braking times, grinding, shaking or high pitched squeaking during braking are all signs that a brake pad
replacement is most likely needed. Tire Rotations should be done every 6 months or every 6,000-8,000 miles.
Why It’s Important: Oil is the most critical lubricant within your vehicle’s operating system. Overused (old) or low oil levels can result in catastrophic failure of the engine and other essential parts that keep your car running. Brake pads are the backbone to safe stopping. Worn brake pads create worn rotors which are a safety hazard to you and your family and can be costly to resurface or replace. Tire Rotations prevent uneven wear and tear and help prolong your tire’s tread life which are key components of a safe, smooth, satisfying ride. Refer to your vehicle’s Operations Manual or ask our ASE Master Certified Technician for specific guidelines for your Make/Model.

A Coolant Flush gets rid of the old, broken down coolant that with time, turns to sludge and hampers your vehicle’s performance.
Why It’s Important: Like oil, coolant is an essential fluid. It regulates your engine’s temperatures and keeps them within safe ranges. Bad (old) or low coolant levels can result in overheating. Left unchecked, overheating can lead to engine failure and leave you stranded on the road. Our ASE Master-Certified Technician can complete your coolant flush in a matter of minutes, getting you back on the road with one less worry in mind.

Like people, cars need periodic check ups. Preventative Maintenance includes, but may not be limited to, things such as fluid checks, oil, spark plug and air filter changes, tire care (inspection, patch, replacement, rotation), brake/rotor repair, fault code reading, assessment of hoses/fittings and review of overall vehicle and engine health and performance.
Why It’s Important: Routinely completing Preventative Maintenance enables us to detect/treat/prevent any issues that may lead to unforeseen costly repairs or imminent threats to your safety. Our ASE Master Certified Technician will be transparent about your car’s health needs and help you make decisions about your vehicle that are right for you, without leaving you feeling pressured or confused.

A Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) is a type of comprehensive vehicle inspection completed by an ASE Master Technician acting as a third party between a buyer/seller. Overall review of mechanical, safety and cosmetic systems are included. Any vehicle that does not come with a warranty or is not a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) Vehicle should have a PPI completed before purchase. PPIs can also be complete for long-distance transactions when the buyer is not able to test-drive a car themselves.
Why It’s Important: Don’t Get Duped. Pre-Purchase Inspections (PPIs) help detect any undisclosed issues that may be a threat to safety or result in excessive financial burdens on the buyer after purchase. Since the buyer assumes all risks when purchasing a vehicle that does not come with a warranty, it is imperative that a PPI be completed prior to signing a purchase agreement.

The National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was established in 1972 to set the standard for automotive technicians and serve to improve the quality of automotive repair and service. ASE Certifications are a tangible proof of training and knowledge that enables prospective customers to gauge the level of expertise of an automotive technician before contracting their work. Technicians must pass a total of 8 ASE Certifications for Automobile & Light Trucks to reach the “Master” Technician status. To stay up-to-date on the ever changing Automotive Industry, Technicians must recertify every 5 years. To become an Advanced Engine Performance Specialist (L1), technicians must prove their competence by passing a separate, highly complex, exam showing that they have the skill to diagnose sophisticated driveability and emissions-related issues. According to ASE statistics, there are only 26,000 L1 Certified Technicians in the Country.
